Minute of Council of 17 December 1874 appointing the Committee was read.

Letter from His Majesty the King of Siam with offer of hospitality and assistance in case the Royal Society should appoint scientific men to observe the eclipse of the sun on 5 April 1875 was read.

Resolution made ' that the President, the Treasurer and Mr Lockyer be a deputation to request interviews with the First Lord of the Treasury and Secretary of State for India to represent the importance of obtaining photographs of the Spectrum of the Sun's outer atmosphere during the total solar eclipse on 5 April 1875, and to ascertain to what extent HM Government woudl be willing to cooperate with the Royal Society in carying our that object.'
