Read two letters from the Lords of the Admiralty; 1. 4 December 1874, inviting suggestions for scientific conduct of voyage to North Pole and coasts of Greenland and adjacent lands in spring 1873 2. 11 January 1875 inviting suggestions for two naturalists, one to each ship, for the intended Polar expedition
Read letters from Sir Henry Rawlinson and Mr Markham recommending compiling an Arctic Manual., and a request communicated by Captain Evans from the Arctic Committee of the Royal Geographical Society for advice on the same.
Resolved; 1. That a manual of physical sciences (excluding geography) be compiled for the Arctic expedition , the Committee to superintend. 2. Professor Rupert Jones FRS to be asked to undertake the editorship of the proposed manual, and he to provide the biological and geological sections, by the end of May 3. Council to apply to the Admiralty for £250 to cover expenses for the manual 4. Professor Allman, Mr Busk, and Admiral Richards to be added to the Committee 5. Mr Chichester Hart be recommended to the Council as one of the naturalists to the arctic expedition. |
