Minutes of the last minutes of the Arctic Committee on 14 January read and confirmed

Announcement that Editorship of the Polar Scientific Manual accepted by Professor Rupert Jones, and appointment confirmed by Council made by President.

Recommendation of Mr Chichester Hurt as one of the Naturalist to the Polar Expedition adopted by Council

Applications for post of Naturalist to the Polar Expedition read from Captain Fielden and Mr Trimen, and resolved Captain Feilden be recommended to the Admiralty for the post.

Letter from Dr Carpenter, University of London, 21 January 1875, read. Suggested that opportunity should be taken to combine a physical and biological examination of the seabed of the North Atlantic between the British Isles and Cape Farewell, and of the deeper portion of Baffins Bay with the Arctic Expedition; also of determining the quantity of air respired in low temperatures, and effects produced by alcoholic liquors, and gives his reasons.

Lists persons who are to draw up instructions for the Scientific Observers of the Polar Expedition for the subjects of Physics, Botany, Zoology, Geology and Ethnology, and to send to the Secretaries at teh Royal Society by 15 March 1875.
