Minutes of meeting of 16 January 1879 read and confirmed
' The President read two letters from Mr Cross stating that the Government intended to issue a Royal Commission on the subject referred to in his former letter and the reply of the Council thereto, and requesting that the Royal Society should name four scientific ment to propose to the Queen as members of the Commission, one of them to be Chairman.
It was agreed to propose the names of Mr Warington Smyth as Chairman, Mr Abel, Professor Clifton, and Dr Tyndall. ' |
