2. Chairman reported on the progress made with the revision of the Third Edition [progress not listed in minutes]
3. Recommendations to be made to Council by the Committee; 3.i That a Fourth Edition should be published in crown quarto, similar in general style and binding to the Third Edition, to be printed by the Clarendon Press 3.ii That the Charters, Statutes and tables should be published as appendices 3.iii that the List of Fellows should include bibliographical references eg to the Dictionary of National Biography, or to obituary notices, while brief remarks might be added where no suitable references are available. 3.iv That the list of medals on age 54 be omitted 3.v That the account of the National Physical Laboratory be included as at present printed brought up to date 3.vi That Chapter 1 be enlarged to include the history of the 18th, 19th and 20th Centuries up to 1936 3.vii That a list of proposed illustrations be sent to all members of the Committee: that the frontispiece of Spratt's History of the Society's arms and perhaps the various homes of the Royal Society be included: that the photographs of Sloane, Franklin and possibly Wren or Evelyn be omitted, as well as the portraits of Kelvin, Darwin and Lister.
4. A detailed arrangements of contents was put forward by the Chairman which was accepted by the Committee
5. A proposal to issue an additional edition of 750 copies at the price of one guinea a copy, reduced to 10 shillngs and sixpence for Fellows was discussed and deferred until an estimate be obtained from the Clarendon Press.
6. It was also sugested that Foreign Members should receive copies of the "Record" as gifts. |
