Description | Present at the Council: Lord Bishop of Salisbury; Mr Henry Howard; Sir Anthony Morgan; Sir George Ent; Dr John Wilkins; Mr Hoskyns; Mr Henry Oldenburg
As there was no quorum an order was onely prepared, not put into effect, for issuing twenty five pounds towards the expenses needed for passing the Patent concerning his Majesty's Grant of Chelsey-college.
Likewise an order for providing a convenient room for Dr Lower to make anatomical experiments in for the Society.
The Letter formerly ordered to be drawn up by Mr Oldenburg for Sir Robert Moray, about soliciting contributions in Scotland, was read, and it was thought fit that something should be added expressing Mr Howard's bounty in giving the ground on which to build the College.
Mr Hoskins moved that Mr Ball desired a Discharge for the apparatus magneticus delivered by him to the Curator. Referred to the President for decision.
The business of contributions was again raised. Mr Oldenburg mentioned Lord Anglesey had declared his willingness to enable his son to contribute, and also his own inclination to be of the Society, and to further the work of building. He added Mr Boyle had expressed his readiness to do his part.
Mr Howard gave an account of his solicitations for contributions; Sir Samuel Tuke was ready both to pay his arrears, and to contribute to the building according to his abilities; and he thought the Earl of Devonshire and Mr Povey would do their part.
Dr Wilkins mentioned that Mr Nelthrop and Mr Skippon would also contribute. |
