Mr Hoskyns reported what was done by the Committee appointed 20 May 1669 for improving Chelsey College, where it was resolved to;
Query the Charter, and what is granted by it to the Society of the rights and possessions of the late college, and how far grantable
Query the map of the site, college and lands; this is in the hands of Sir Anthony Morgan's s Executors, or Mr Cole, or Mr Chayny
Query the book of the college printed and lately in Sir Anthony Morgan;s custody
Query the paper of bringing Uxbridge River to London of Mr Packer, and whether the liberty and power of bringing that River were granted to the college, and the Act of Prliament for that purpose.
Query the Patent for making collection of voluntary contributions throughout the nation for advancing the College and what was collected, and in whose hands it is
Lord Brereton to learn from Dr Wilkinson via Mr Cheyney, what donations have been made to the College and what is become ofo the library.
Query the Patents that Sir Anthony Morgan mentioned but could not find, made to the College.
Lord Brereton reported that Mr Cheyney was ready to treat with the Society in about a year, when it will be in his power to do so; the land to be discussed being newly leased out. [Note in margin: See May 20th]
Ordered that the Council of the Royal Society, or three or more of them be a Committee to consider the most convenient and effectual way to carry on the business of the Society; they are to meed for the first time at the house of Lord Brouncker next Monday at five of the clock in the evening.
The Certificate for Thomas Willisel, drawn up by Mr Hoskyns, was read and approved. Wording as follows;
"These are to certify all whom it may concerne, that the Bearer hereof, Thomas Willisel, is at present employed by the President, Council and Fellows of the Royal Society of London for improving Natural Knowledge, to go into several parts of his Majesty's Dominions for purposes suitable to their Institution, according to Authority unto them on this behalf given by his Sacred Majesty that now is; And they earnestly recommend him to all generous and ingenuous Spirits, desiring that as occasion shall require, they will assist him in promoting a Work so generally beneficial to all Mankind.
In Witnesse whereof, the said Presidnt Council and Fellows of the Royal Society have hereunto caused their Common Seal to be affixed this ..... day of ...."
