Dr Clark and Sir John Lowther were sworn as Members of the Council
A Petition of Robert Thornhill Esq to the Royal Society was read relating to Chelsey [Chelsea] College. After discussion, it was ordered; That Mr Charles Howard, Sir Robert Moray, Sir Paul Neile, Sir John Lowther, Sir Peter Wyche, Mr Henshaw or any two or more of them be a Committee, to consider this petition and to negotiate with him about the particulars in it. Committee to meet for the first time on Monday 15 May at Sir Robert Moray's chamber at 10 of the clock, and calling for assistance if needed from his Majesty's Surveyor Genral Dr Christopher Wren, and Mr Hook.
Ordered the Treasurer to continue to pay Mr Hook his salary of thirty pounds a year, from the time of his last payment which was appointed to be made to him by an order of the Council of 27 April 1670.
Ordered the Treasurer to pay five pounds to be left in the hands of the President, and by him to be given to Spencer Hickman, Stationer, for his printing of Mr Horrox's Manuscripts of Astronomy
Ordered the Treasurer pay eight shillings to Mr John Collins for a transcript by him of some papers belonging to Mr Horrox's Astronomical Papers.
There was licenced Dr Nathaniel Grew's book entitled The Anatomy of Vegetables begun, together with a General Account of Vegetation grounded thereon, and ordered to be printed by the printer of the Royal Society. |
