Ordered that Sir John Banks, Sir Jonas Moore, Dr Croon, Mr Colwall, Mr Hill and Mr Hook, or any two or more of them (Mr Colwall to be one) to ensure they get possession of the white Gallery in Gresham College, to fit it for a repository, and to remove there with all possible speed what is in the repository of the Society.
[Note in margin; 'the original report of this order was happily recovered by the PS James Earl of Morton in January 1766 and is now preserved in the Society's Guard Book of 1675 by Order of the said President and copied in the Chasm overleaf.(some lines crossed out, illegible). On page 266, in the same handwriting, 'Copy of the Original report concerning the white Gallery at Gresham College which is now (1766) laid up in the Guard Book of 1675 viz. (Copy Verbatim and Litteration) At a meeting of the Committe of the R. Society for contriving the White Gallery of Gresham College, for the Library and the Repository of the Royal Society. December 9, 1675 There being present the Committee, viz Sir Jonas More. Mr Colwall. Dr Croon. Mr Hill. Mr Hook. In pursuance of an Order for the Council, we have viewed the White Gallery, and having considered the same, we conceive, if fit, that the whole Gallery be forthwith repaired, as to the whiting of the walls mending the Glasse, making the Doors, Partitions and Shutters of the Windows: And that the whole Gallery be divided into two parts; the South part of which, containing seven windows, we conceive fit to be made the Repository, and the North-part or remainder thereof to be made the Library. And further that the Stairs and Doors leading therunto at the South end thereof should be repaired and Amended: And that the Workmen of the College should be treated, withall, to Understand the time and Charge of the said Repair. In order thereunto we have summoned the said Workmen to meet Us here at Gresham College, to morrow at 5 of clock in the Afternoon. Ordered, that Dr King is recommended to solicit the Executors of the late Dr Willis for the paying of his arrears to the Royal Society amounting to twenty pounds and eleven shillings, witness in the Treasurer's book.
