Mr William Bayly and Mr Nicholas Johnson came from the Attorney General to see the Conveyance of the Chelsey [Chelsea] College and the appurtenances, to the Kings most Excellent Majesty sealed with the Common Seal of the Society. The Deed of Sale was read over and the Common Seal set to the same, the whole Council consenting thereto. At the same time Mr Johnson produced an acquittance to be signed by Mr Hill upon the receipt of the money.
Ordered that the £1300 now received by Abraham Hill Esq. Treasurer of the Society from Mr Johnson, be deposited by him in the East India Company, and that the Obligation from the Company for the same be deposited in the Iron Chest, the keys of the chest to be in the custody of the person mentioned in the Statutes. At the same time the three Charters and the Common Seal be put into the chest also.
Sir John Hoskins was asked to call again on Mr Bayly and obtain a copy of the Conveyance to the King of Chelsey [Chelsea] College and to peruse the papers now in the hands of Mr Bayly to see if any of them be of further use to the Society and not belonging to Chelsey College, and to bring back such with him, leaving the rest in Mr Bayly's hands.
Mr Hill returned with a note from Cook and King for the payment of the £1300 to the East India Company. He was asked to procure the bond of the East India Company for the same by next Friday and to bring it in so that it may be put in the Iron Chest. |
