' The President reported that the Company of Mine - Adventurere being established by Act of Parliament desired to know whether the Society would not give them Leave to meet twice a week, or often, on Days when the Society do not meet, at a certain Yearly Rent, in their House in Crane - Court. It was proposed, Ballotted for, and carried for continuing as we are, and not Letting the House to the Mine - Adventurers.
Mr Waller was desired to take care of placing the Busto of King Charles the 2nd in any place, where he pleases of the Meeting Room.
It was Ordered that Mr Lowthorp be demanded his Contributions from the last time he was excused, viz from the 28th January 1708/9.
Mr Waller proposed to build a New Repository for two Hundred Pounds: This Proposall was Ballotted for, and agreed to, and he was desired to go on.
Mr Waller was desired to speake to Sir Christopher Wren about Abatements in the Workmens Bills.
The Treasurer was ordered to pay the Solicitors Bill of Law Charges, viz Eighty Pounds, thirteen shillings and two pence.
Dr Sloane reported that the Lord Sunderland proposeth that if the Society pleaseth to let him have 40 or 50 of the old printed Classic Authors in their Library, which he wants, he will give them the latest and best Editions of the same Books, together with a Sett of Grovius and Gronovius's Aantiquities, or Books of the same value, which the Society shall choose. He will also lend these Books, if occasion requires, to any creditable Person for helping forward any Edition for his own Library; and will give any Security the Society shall be advised to require that all of them not before delivered shall be delivered to the Society after his decease. It was Ballotted for, and carried in the Negative, not to agree to this Proposall; but that my Lord Sunderland should have the Loan of any of tre Books he pleaseth. It was thought it might be very prejudicial to the Society to alienate such Books, by hindering Benefactions of this kind for the future. ' |
