' Sir John Hoskins made a report of the State of the Societies Books and Papers upon an inspection made by the Committee appointed for that purpose on the 5th of January last. Which was that they had found the said books and Papers in a very good condition and the Entryes made according to order.
Ordered that a Committee of the Societie that will voluntarily meet once a Week in Dr Pope Lodgings to consider of Experiments, and the Correspondents of the Societie shall be allowed a fire and Candle at the Societies charge.
Ordered that Mr Hook be desired to write to Amsterdam to a Bookseller of his acquaintance there about the disposall of the Book of Fishes ; and that he agree for 400 Books at 25 shillings per Book, whereof two fifths to be paid in mony, the rest in Exchange of such other Books as shall be thought requisite for the Societies Library.
Dr Sylvius of Dublin was proposed Candidate by Sir John Hoskins and Approved.
The President signed a bill of petty expences laid out by Edmond Halley being for £1..15...2d
The President signed likewise an order for paying to the Operator half a years Salary ; due to him on the 14th January last being 20 pounds.
Upon consideration of a Proposall made by Edmond Halley concerning the ascertaining of his Salary : It was concluded that the Councell would make his Salary for the last Year better than £50 : But that they could not at this time resolve on the Quantum, by reason of the absence of Mr Hill the Treasurer, who was now gone.
Ordered that Mr Hunt do lay out the Mony for erecting a pole : in the Quadrangle of Gresham College, for the Management of a Telescope : the charge not exceeding thirty shillings. ' |
