'Approved by Ballot and Ordered to be paid Mr Austins Bill for the Anniversary Dinner at Pontac's Amounting to £36..6..3 together with an Allowance of 10s to the Servants in all Amounting to Thirty Six pounds Sixteen Shillings and three pence.

Approved by Ballot and Ordered to be paid Mr Frewin the Solicitor's Bills Amounting to Twenty Six pounds Nine Shillings and Ten pence That is Six pounds and thirteen Shillings for the Copy of the decree in chancery about the Suit on Lady Sadlers will and for Attendance on the Same; & Nineteen pounds Sixteen Shillings and Ten pence for Feeing the Attorney General and for other Charges on the Case relating to the Arrears for Contribution.

The Treasurer Reported that he had tender'd the Sum of Ten pounds to Mr Westal the Painter according to the appointment in an Order of the last Council but he refused to Accept the Same in full payment of his bill and insisted on the Whole.

Wherefore it was put to the Ballot and agreed that the whole Contents be paid amounting to Eleven pounds and Twelve Shillings.

The President recommended it as a proper matter to consider Whether according to the Attorney Generals Opinion on the Seventh & Eight Questions in the Society's Case, it be not most advisable to repeal the Eight Statute of the Sixth Chapter and to Substitute a New Statute in the Room of it which might answer the Same purpose and be free from those doubts which are raised concerning the other; To which End He Said he had Caused the draught of a new Statute to be made Which he laid before them for their approbation.

The Said Draught was Accordingly read in the following Words.

Every Person to be Elected Fellow of the Royal Society Shall be propounded and recommended at a Meeting of the Society by three or more Members, who Shall then deliver to one of the Secretaries a Paper Sign'd by themselves with their own Names, Signifying the Name, Addition, Profession, Occupation, and chief Qualifications of the Candidate for Election; as also Notifying the usuall place of his habitation. A Fair Copy of which Paper with the date of the Day when delivered Shall be fixed up in the Meeting Room of the Society at Ten Several Ordinary Meetings before the Said Candidate Shall be put to the Ballot.

Saving and Excepting that it Shall be free for every one of his Majesties Subjects who is a Peer or the Son of a Peer of great Britain or Ireland & for everyone of his Majesties Privy Council of Either of the Said kingdoms & for Every Foreign Prince or Ambassador to be propounded by any Single person & to be put to the Ballot for Election on the Same Day; There being present a Competent Number for making Elections.

The Words of which draught were debated and at last agreed upon.

After which the Eight Statute of the Sixth Chap'r was read and the Question being put to ye Ballot whether the Repeal of the Said 8th Stat. of the 6th Chap. Shall be propounded at another meeting or not & it pass't in the afirmative.

The Question then was put Whether the draught of the New Statute then agreed upon Shall be read at another Meeting or Not and it pass't in the Affirmative.

Mr Machin informed the Council That Mr Robinson of Merton College being about to publish a New Edition of Hesiod, desired leave to Collate his Copy with the Societys Manuscript which was granted on condition he do it in the Societies House.

An Order was made that Mr Zollman have leave to Enter on his office and enjoy the proffits thereof as formerly.'
