Minutes of last Council read

Mr Davall reported that the £800 from the King would be collected the following Wednesday

Resolved;
1. to add £3-3-0d for an alarm and £4-4-0d for a stand for the Telescope to Mr Maskelyne's former estimate for Instruments for St Helena
2. Members of Council present to thoroughtly read the estimate of sundry expenses delivered by Mr Maskelyne [items listed in detail] total sum £336
Noted the estimate is exclusive of lodging and boarding of the assistant, his washing and incidental charges.

Memorial drawn up and signed by the Members present to be delivered to the Right Honourable the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty, asking for the provision of a vessel to transport the observers of the Transit of Venus to Bencoolen [Bengkulu, Sumatra, Indonesia] as the only means of carrying out the King's intention. The Society is ' fully persuaded that your Lordships will want no further Sollicitation to give this new Instance of your Zeal for the promotion of a Science so intimately connected with the art of navigation as well as for the Honour of the Nation.
