Date29 August 1748
DescriptionPresent: The President; Lord Charles Cavendish; Dr Mead; Nicholas Mann Esq; Mr Watson; David Wray Esq; Dr Mortimer.

Minutes of the last council meeting on 10th August 1748 were read which stated that the Earl of Macclesfield had the permission to borrow certain apparatus from the Society. These had been accordingly delivered to the Earl.

Discusses the Earl's seat at Shirburn Castle and that he has employed Mr Professor Bliss of Oxford to create an Inventory of the items delivered. The Inventory had two parts, one of which for the Earl of Macclesfield, and one copy for the Society.

Copy of the Inventory

Notice of the death of Mr Philip Henry Tollman, who served the Society as assistant to the secretaries in foreign correspondence.

Mentions a paragraph from Mr Sheck's will, and several extracts from the Council books containing Sir John Fortescue's opinion which suggests that Dr Thomas Stack, as deputy to the late Mr Tollman, should take the role as assistant.
This was put to ballot and Dr Stack was unanimously elected into the Office of Assistant to the Secretaries.
