' The Minutes of the last Council were read.

The President communicated a Letter from the Chapter of St Paul's Cathedral to him, requesting the opinion of the Royal Society relative to the best and most effectual method of securing that building from the accident of lightning.

A letter from Mr Wilson to Mr Robertson, requesting from Mr Drake of York FRS that his name may be struck out of the list of Members of the Royal Society ; and the volumes of transactions which he hqas not yet received may be delivered to him ; and Mr Robertson having reported that the arrears of Mr Drake had been paid to the end of January last : Ordered that his request be complied withy and the volumes of Transactions whihc have not been dielivered to his orde, and his bond returned, which was done accordingly.

The bonds of Mr John Caverhill, and of Richard Hill Waring Esq were put into the Strong box.

Ordered by Ballot, unanimously, that a present of one hundred guineas be made to Captain Douglas at his outset, who is appointed by the Admiralty to carry the two observers to the North Cape : And an order upon James Burrow Esq for the payment of the said sum, was made accordingly.

Ordered. That Captain douglas be desired to attend at a meeting of the Council, on Thursday next.

The President having proposed that a Statute relative to the Treqasurer's accounts be considered, the same was referred to a Committee viz Lord Charles Cavendish, James Burrow and Samuel Wegg Esq and the Secretaries, to prepare a report of the most proper Statute for thap purpose.

Ordered. That Mr Maskelyne be desired to provide two additional telescopes to be sent up to the North Cape.

The Astronomer Royal having proposed that an advance of £50 be made to Mr Ashurst, who is imployed in making the two portable observatories for the North Cape.

Ordered by Ballot that the said sum be advanced and a draught upon James Burrow Esq was accordingly made. '
