DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Francis Baily; Captain Francis Beaufort; Marc Isambard Brunel; John George Children; Samuel Hunter Christie; Joseph Henry Green; Charles Konig; William George Maton; William Hasledine Pepys; Peter Mark Roget; Reverend Richard Sheepshanks; Reverend William Whewell; the Treasurer, John William Lubbock, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Mr. Konig reported on his enquiries on seven Foreign Members, noting that all were alive apart from LeGendre and Villa da Praia. An additional £50 to be given to Anthony Panizzi for services on the Library catalogue. M. Demonville's letters judged to be unworthy of the attention of the Society. Report on Mr. Barlow's telescope was received from Sir John Herschel, this and other reports to be considered at next Council. Mr. Taylor's bill of £583 6s. 9d., for printing Abstracts to be paid. Mr Roberston applied for leave, three weeks granted.
