| Description | Printed minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken.
Commencing with a list of Council members present: Thomas Bell; Sir Benjamin Brodie; Samuel Hunter Christie; Dr John Forbes; Gideon Mantell; Dr William Allen Miller; George Rennie; Dr Peter Roget; Lieutenant Colonel Edward Sabine; Charles Wheatstone; the Vice President, Sir Roderick Impey Murchison, in the chair..
Among matters discussed or noted: a list of Fellows to be asked for their opinion on whether any changes should be made in the mode of awarding Royal Medals. £50 from the Donation Fund granted to George Newport on the recommendation of Forbes (see also CMP/2/49) and, on the recommendation of Wheatstone, the same amount to Edward Frankland for his research into organic chemistry. A letter from James Booth, dated 14 March 1850, requesting that as he is unable to come to the Society to copy his paper on eliptic functions, and as it cannot be removed from the Society archive, that a printed copy be made for him by the Society's printer (letter reproduced in full in minutes). Applications for funds from the Government Grant from [William Radcliffe] Birt and Mr Hassell referred to the Committee of Recommendations for the application of the Government Grant (no details of applications given in minutes). A Mr Long granted permission to copy the portrait of Dr Brooke [Brook] Taylor hanging in the Council Room.
