Commencing with a list of Council members present: Thomas Bell; William Bowman; Sir Benjamin Brodie; Samuel Hunter Christie; Dr John Forbes; Marshall Hall; Gideon Mantell; Sir Roderick Impey Murchison; Richard Phillips; Sir Jonathan Frederick Pollock; George Rennie; William Henry Smyth; Edward Solly; Lord John Wrottesley; Lieutenant Colonel Edward Sabine, Vice President and Treasurer, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: a letter from the Prime Minister, John Russell, dated 28 Jan 1851, informing Council of the decision of the Board of Treasury to continue [funding] the Toronto Observatory [letter reproduced in full in minutes]. All gentlemen awarded a portion of the Government Grant to be notified by the Society's Secretary [for list of recipients see CMP/2/57]. A letter from John Scott Russell, dated 25 Jan 1851, explaining the arrears of his subscription fees to the Society as an oversight, and requesting to be readmitted as a Fellow on payment of the amount due [letter reproduced in full in minutes]. A letter from Robert Lee, dated 19 Feb 1851, asking about manuscript minutes of Council for 20 Oct 1845 as he believes a resolution has been omitted from the printed copy [letter reproduced in full in minutes]. Bills for costs associated with production of Philosophical Transactions listed with amounts and suppliers, and ordered to be paid. A letter from Heinrich Dove expressing his thanks for being elected a Foreign Member.
