Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Mr. Adams and Mr. Fairbairn made and subscribed to the declaration in lieu of the oath, as new Members of Council. Report from the Library Committee on progress with the Catalogue of Scientific Memoirs, applying to Council for £300 with the intention of employing two additional assistants: the report adopted and £300 placed at the disposal of the Committee. Dr. Tyndall appointed to deliver the Bakerian Lecture. The Treasurer reported on a letter from the President, noting that the unexpended balance of Government Grant, together with interest from the Donation Fund, would be sufficient to meet probable demand for the next year, and it should be intimated to Government that the annual vote of £1,000 should be delayed until 1862; the President requested to communicate with Lord Palmerston on the matter. Mr. Gassiot, Sir Roderick Murchison, Charles Wheatstone and Lord Wrottesley appointed to the Government Grant Committee in place of deceased members and those elected to Council. A donation of two guineas made to the Parochial Schools at Mablethorpe. The memorial of Mr. Weld was considered and referred to a committee for the purpose. The University of Christiana placed on the list of institutions to receive Philosophical Transactions and Proceedings. List of institutions to be presented with complete runs of the Proceedings. Dr. Scott Alison to be permitted to reprint his papers and have use of the blocks of wood-cuts. The Earl of Ellesmere granted an extension of time for admission into the Fellowship. On recommendations from the Scientific Relief Fund Committee, £50 from the fund was granted to Mrs. Henfrey, and £25 was granted to Mrs. Henry. Dr. Carpenter was appointed to the Committee of the Scientific Relief Fund. |
