Commencing with a list of Council members present: Captain William de Wiveleslie Abney; William Thomas Blanford; George Carey Foster; Michael Foster; Sir Archibald Geikie; Frederick Ducane Godman; John Hopkinson; George Downing Liveing; Joseph Norman Lockyer; Arthur Milnes Marshall; Philip Henry Pye-Smith; John William Strutt, Lord Rayleigh; William Chandler Roberts-Austen; Edward Albert Schafer; Sir George Gabriel Stokes; the Treasurer, Sir John Evans; Sydney Howard Vines; General James Thomas Walker; the President, William Thomson, Lord Kelvin, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Deaths of Captain Edward Killwick Calver and Professor Robert Grant. Letter from R. D. Awdry, Admiralty, 21 July 1892, to Michael Foster, entered in full into the minutes, on the request for a ship to take an observing party to Teneriffe for the total eclipse, the Admiralty state that owing to the small accommodation on West African service vessels steps should be taken to secure mail steamer passage. With a response from Michael Foster, 3 November 1892, to R. D. Awdry, Admiralty, entered in full into the minutes, stating that it was not practical to wait until the times for mail steramers had been fixed; it seems improbable that a vessel would be available to the proposed expedition and that he hoped the Admiralty would make available a man-of-war in addition to the gunboat and steam-launch. Report from the Colour Vision Committee with suggestions to the Board of Trade on how to implement their Report's recommendations. Adjudication of Royal Society medals: awards to Rudolph Virchow (Copley Medal), Nils C. Duner (Rumford Medal), John Newport Langley (Royal Medal), Charles Pritchard (Royal Medal), Francois Marie Raoult (Davy Medal) and Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker (Darwin Medal). List of President, Officers and Council elected for the forthcoming year, these to be communicated to the public papers. Nominations of auditors for the Treasurer's accounts. Application from the Kew Committee for £400 for building extension granted. £2,000 received from the Treasury on account of thhe Government Grant. Letter from the Editor of Revue Generale des Sciences requesting advance copies of papers, Council agreeing to supply copies of papers that had been read and passed for publication, these might be shared with certain journals at the Officers' discretion. Invitation from the University of Padua to send delegates to a Galileo tercentenary event, the Treasurer, G. H. Darwin and J. Norman Lockyer appointed, the Foreign Secretary to prepar an address. 100 francs to be submitted to memorials for Hermite and Quatrefages. £25 from the Donation Fund to Professor Darwin to support the reduction of tidal observations. Letter from Professor Seeley on a specimen of Pareiasaurus purchased with aid from the Government Grant, now ready to be deposited in the British Museum (Natural History). Application from Professor Hull for a copy of Philosophical Transactions, approved. Letters of thanks from the Borough of Nottingham and the International Congress of Orientalists; and from new Foreign Members. Extension of time for admission to the Fellowshhip granted to Professor Pedler. Report of the Meteorological Council. Leave granted to J. C. Webster to have left-over specimens of Peripatus capensis from Mr. Sedgwick's researches. Permissions to have copies of plates and electrotypes. Bills for publishing, engraving, and other expenses.
