Description | Large files of correspondence between Sir John Cornforth and Professor Herman Eggerer, who was based in Munich, and later Regensburg, Germany at the time of their communication. The letters mostly discuss their stereochemical work, and they often exchange ideas or news of experiments that have been tried. To accompany some of the correspondence, Eggerer sent copies of his results, and the file also contains copies of papers produced by various scientists including the two correspondents, such as 'The Asymetric Methyl Group, and the Mechanism of Malate Synthase' by Cornforth and Redmond (Sittingbourne) and Eggerer, Bugel and Gutschow (Munich). As the correspondence continues they also occasionally exchange personal news, particuarly about their gardens alongside their scientific correspondence. |
