Citation | Mr John Smeaton, maker of Philosophical Instruments, a Gentleman well known to the Society for his great skill in the theory and practise of mechanicks (of which he has given repeated proofs in the papers he has already communicated and the Instruments he has invented) being very desirous of the Honour of being elected a Fellow of the Royal Society: we do therefore, from our personal acquaintance, recommend him as duly qualifyed to become an useful member of this Society; both on account of his abilities in Mechanicks, as also in being well versed in the Knowledge of the mathematicks and natural Philosophy |
