TitleMatthey, George: certificate of election to the Royal Society
CitationDistinguished as a Metallurgist, having special knowledge of the metals of the Platinum Group. The development of the Platinum Industry was mainly due to his efforts, and, in connection with the researches of Graham, he devoted much attention to Palladium and its alloys. International Metric Commissions have testified to the value of his scientific work (Comptes Rendus, T LXXXIII p 1090) and, in accordance with his suggestions, the Iridio-Platinum Alloy has been adopted for the Prototype Standards of length and weight.
