Title | Preece, Sir William Henry: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Citation | He has been attached to electricity since 1851 and has assisted materially to promote the progress of its practical applications and the development of its laws. He has been a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers since 1872 and was elected as an Associate in 1859. He is Vice-President of the Society of Telegraph Engineers and is a Member of the Physical Society, the Meteorological Society, the Royal Institution, the British Association and the Society of Arts. He has materially improved many forms of telegraphic apparatus and has invented many applications of Electricity to the working of railways, particularly in its application to the Block system. He is joint author of a Textbook of Telegraphy published by Messrs Longmans, and has edited several works and written many pamphlets. He has written the following papers: - (List attached_ |
