Author of several papers connected with Science, as: 'On the Resistance opposed by Water to the motion of Vessels of Various Forms , and on the way in which this varies with the velocity' (1869); 'On the Efficiency of Guide-blade Propellors' (1883); 'On the most suitable Propellor for Shallow Draughts' (1885); 'On Shallow-draught Screw-steamers' (1885); 'On Torpedo-boats and Light Yachts' (8vo, pp 94, with 5 large diagrams, 1881). A distinguished engineer and naval architect, also most successful as a scientific naval architect in the construction of torpedo-boats, having a minimum of weight and a maximum of power and speed. Attached to science and anxious to promote its progress. |
