Citation | Lecturer in Petrology at the Imperial College of Science and Technology. Professional Adviser to the Colonial Office on minerals other than petroleum and coal; and Representative of the Colonies not possessing responsible government, and the Protectorates administered by the Secretary of State. On the Governing Body of the Imperial Mineral Resources. Author of numerous papers on geology and mineralogy, based in several cases on considerable travels. Among these may be cited 'Geology of NE of Caithness' (1891); 'Geology of Mattogrosso' (Quart Journ Geol Soc, 1894); 'Expedition to Caupolican, Bolivia' (Geogr Journ, 1903); 'Gnomonic Projections on Two Planes' (Min Mag, 1906); 'Geometry of Twin Crystals' (Proc Roy Soc Edin, 1912); 'The Isolation of the Directions Image of Small Crystals' (Min Mag, 1916). Is remarkable for the range of his observations in various branches of geology, and has utilized his accurate methods in the improvement of instruments of petrological research. |
