Author of fifty publications on cotton. Botanist in Egypt 1904-1914; cleared up the relation of cotton growing to irrigation and introduced new plant-physiological methods for the 'Quantitative Analysis of Agricultural Yield' (Phil Trans, 1915-1917); subsequently, as Head of an Industrial Experimental Department in Manchester, researched on the structure and related physical properties of the single cotton hair. |
