Citation | Distinguished for his researches on radio-activity and atomic structure, especially investigations on the properties of alpha- and beta-particles and on the magnitude of the charge on the nucleus and the law of force around it. Since 1919 he has collaborated with Prof Sir Ernest Rutherford in pioneer investigations of the disintegration of elements by alpha particles which have yielded results of fundamental importance. Has taken an active part in the training and direction of research workers in the Cavendish Laboratory. |
