Title | Kemp, Stanley Wells: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Date stamp on reverse |
Citation | A Zoologist distinguished for systematic and ecological work of unusually high quality and breadth of view, due to familiarity with living animals and their conditions of life. As Director of Research, 'Discovery' Expedition, he planned the programme and the details of equipment in a manner which has made this the most important British Oceanographical Expedition since the 'Challenger.' His work in Ireland, and in India as Superintendent, Zoological Survey, and Zoologist, Abor Expedition, resulted in important Memoirs on Crustacea, on the fauna of brackish and estuarine waters, and on 'Peripatus', which he was the first to discover in Continental Asia. |
