Description | Date stamp on reverse |
Citation | Distinguished for his researches in comparative neurology, in particular the demonstration that the cranial motor nuclei in Amphibia accord with the conception of the derivation of the latter from Crossopterygian-like ancestors (The Motor Nuclei of the Cerebral Nerves in Phylogeny, Journ Comp Neurol, Vols 27, 28, 33 and 34, 1917-1922), and in human palaeontology. His recognition of the generic qualities of a hitherto unknown type of Pleistocene man on the morphological characters of a single tooth (Palaeontologica Sinica, Vol 7, 1927) was a brilliant achievement, which was subsequently justified by the discovery of fragments of two jaws and a brain case, the immense importance and significance of which have been interpreted with insight and judgment by him in numerous papers (on 'Sinanthropus', especially Bull Geol Society, China , 1928, 1929 and 1930). |
