Title | Hinton, Martin Alister Campbell: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | His work on recent and fossil Mammalia has thrown light on many questions relating to the evolution and geographical differentiation of the group and his studies of British Pliocene and Pleistocene species have made possible the geological correlation of scattered river and cavern deposits. The 'Monograph of Voles and Lemmings' (Vol 1, 1926) is a work of much originality and importance. He has given attention to economics matters such as rat control, vole plagues and whaling. His report on the Barret-Hamilton expedition to South Georgia, published in 1926, has been to a large extent the starting point of the subsequent 'Discovery' investigations. |
