Citation | Distinguished as a Biochemist and especially for his pioneering researches on the Biochemistry of Micro-Organisms. Parts I-XVIII of this investigation formed a single communication of 367 pages constituting Vol 220 of the Transactions (B) for 1931. Subsequent parts have been published in the Biochemical Journal. The novel results obtained in this work include the elaboration of quantitative methods and technique of investigation of the products of metabolism of micro-organisms; studies of the conditions of formation of known products of the fermentation of glucose; isolation of a number of new products of such processes and in many cases the determination of their constitutions. A special mention must be made of kojic acid, citromycetin, methoxydihydroxytoluquinone, luteic acid, pulberulic acid and a hydroxydicarboxypentadecoiclactone. |
