Description | Date stamp on reverse |
Citation | As Surgeon-Naturalist to the Marine Survey of India, 1910-1914, 1919-1925, and as head of the Survey and Indian Museum, he has been largely responsible for the great advance of Indian zoology. His researches include important memoirs on Copepoda, Salpa and Lithotrya, and his study of the physical and chemical conditions of Indian waters in relation to the marine fauna is laying a basis for the understanding of its ecological and distributional aspects. His four years on Active Service were followed by his volume on the 'Carcariae of India,' the standard monograph in general use in the East. |
