Title | Bedson, Sir Samuel Phillips: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Date stamp on reverse |
Citation | Distinguished for his work in Experimental Pathology and in the field of Virus Research. Author of valuable series of experimental researches on the genesis of the blood platelet, the specificity of antiplatelet serum, and the mechanism of experimental purpura. Since 1925 has contributed largely to our knowledge of foot-and-mouth disease, herpes, vaccinia and psittacosis and in particular has illuminated immunity problems in connexion with these viruses. With his co-workers Western and Simpson, Bedson was the first to show (1930) that Psittacosis is due to a filterable virus and further that such virus is in all probability represented by the elementary bodies demonstrable in the lesions. |
