Citation | Of international repute in Port Works; River Training , etc, Engineer of large works in Sea Water. Originator of Government proposals for the development of Tidal Power on the Severn. Designer during the war of the 'Mystery Towers' - each of 60ÿ000 tons weight concrete, maximum height 188 feet, built to float in 11 feet of water and to be sunk in the sea at depths down to 28 fathoms. The present Nab Lighthouse at Portsmouth is one of these. Has studied many hydraulic problems, particularly by models. Has also applied hydro-electricity to electro-chemistry and electro-metallurgy. |
