| Citation | Distinguished for his contributions to the physiology of invertebrate and lower vertebrate animals. His earlier papers threw much light on the mechanism of respiration of certain arthropod types; his later work , as (i) The tongue of the Chameleon (ii) the pigmentary effector system of the Chameleon and (iii) the sense organs of fishes - is all of outstanding importance. His papers on the stretch receptors, lateral line organs, ampullae of Lorenzini and the semicircular canals of fishes all represent new and very important contributions to knowledge. His work is characterised by a high standard of technique and by critical judgement. For much of the work collaboration with other workers has been essential. A list of papers is attached. |
