Title | Peierls, Sir Rudolf Ernst: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Citation | He has made some of the earliest and most important applications of quantum mechanics to the electron theory of metals, and he gave the first correct theory of the absorption spectra of non-metallic solids; he has also made important contributions to the theory of alloys and of supra-conductors. His recent work on nuclear forces and nuclear reactions is of the greatest importance and is likely to affect the future course of experimental research considerably. |
