Title | Crane, Morley Benjamin: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Citation | Crane is chiefly responsible for our present genetic knowledge of the species and varieties of fruit cultivated in this country. His work has consisted of experimental breeding, combined with his own physiological and morphological studies of the types produced by segregation and by mutation in chimaeras, and also combined in the cytological studies of others. He has applied these methods successfully, in the first place, to the production of new fruits and, in the second place, to the understanding of the origin, the fertility and the sterility of those we already have. |
