Title | Hodgkin, Dorothy Mary Crowfoot: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Dr. Hodgkin has been engaged for thirteen years on researches in crystal chemistry, chiefly in the field of the sterols and proteins. Her studies have thrown much light on the stereo-chemical structure of the sterol skeleton and, in one case, cholesteryl-iodide, a complete structure has been worked out. In proteins, she has established the general form and the leading inter-atomic distances in crystalline insulin and she has also carried out work on virus structures. During the war she has shown that it is possible to derive the complete structure of organic substances of unknown chemical composition by X-ray methods alone. Her contributions to this field has [sic] placed her in the forefront of X-ray crystal analysts |
