Title | Thomas, Meirion: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Citation | Distinguished for his researches on catabolic processes in plants. His chief work is embodies in a series of papers entitled "Studies in Zymasis" in which, during the last twenty years, he has described the effects of oxygen, carbon dioxide and hydrocyanic acid in various gas mixtures on the zymasic breakdown of hexose. He has shown the existence of various forms of zymasis, including those induced by carbon dioxide, hydrocyanic acid, injury and senescence, in addition to the well-known anaerobic zymasis. He has determined the conditions for these various forms of zymasis, and has examined the relations between zymasis and the incidence of physiological diseases. |
