Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Worked out methods of making series of graded collodian membranes with remarkably uniform pores. Using these and other physical methods, laid the foundations of our knowledge of the sizes of viruses and of some other small particles. Without his methods, now universally employed, progress in many fields of virus research would have been delayed. Recently, with I. M. Dawson, found a method of takinf electron-micrographs of viruses adsorbed on red-cell stromata; phenomena, of which the existence could previously only be inferred, can now be observed directly. Many other studies on the borderline of physical chemistry and biology are marked by great ingenuity and thoroughness. |
