Citation | COOK, Arthur Herbert (London). Senior Lecturer in Organic Chemistry, Imperial College, London. Distinguished for his researches in Organic Chemistry and particularly in relation to the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds of therapeutic interest. His studies on fungal antibiotics, especially the isolation and chemical nature of anti-tubercular agents have attracted wide attention. He has played a prominent part in the Anglo-American research programme on Penicillin and has contributed extensively to the forthcoming Penicillin Monograph in which the detailed results of this collaborative effort will be described. He has also written many general articles such as that on "Algal Pigments and their Significance" and is the joint author of "Chemistry of the Natural Colouring Matters". He has published over sixty original papers, apart from his Penicillin investigations which are still on the secret list. |
