Title | Mendelssohn, Kurt Alfred Georg: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Distinguished for his work at low temperatures, particularly on liquid helium II and superconductivity. Discovered (with J. G. Daunt) the mechano-caloric effect, showing that He II cools when passing through a capillary and elucidated the phenomena of the "creeping film". Has determined (with a number of co-workers) the electronic entropies of superconductors and has investigated the anomalous behaviour of superconductive alloys. During the war worked on the application of physics to clinical medicine, devising (with D.S. Evans) direct methods for the measurement of blood pressure and heat radiation. Has published over 70 papers, many of them in the Proceedings of the Royal Society. |
