Title | Ubbelohde, Alfred Rene Jean Paul: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Formerly Dewar Fellow, Royal Institution. Distinguished for the application of thermodynamics to the study of the structure of matter, illustrated by experimental work on zero-point energy, lattice energy of long-chain compounds, phenomena of melting, irreversible processes, thermal conductivity of polyatomic gases, thermal expansion and the isotope effect in crystals. He has also made notable contributions to physical chemistry on such subjects as the kinetics of absorption and interface catalysis, and to organic chemistry in his studies of the combustion process, for example, on pro-knocks and hydrocarbon combustion. Author of book: Introduction to Modern Thermodynamical Principles (O.U. Press). HE has made notable advances in the experimental study and the theory of explosives phenomena. |
