Citation | (Edward) Wilfred Taylor, C.B.E., F.Inst.P., Joint Managing Director of Cooke, Troughton and Simms Ltd., is distinguished for his work in optics, particularly in the fields of surveying and microscopy. His introduction of the use of glass circles in theodolites has been of fundamental importance in the resurvey of Great Britain. More recently, he has played an important part in the development of phase-contrast and ultraviolet microscopy. He has also designed special microscopic apparatus now widely used in the study of the tracks made in photographic emulsions by fast particles. His work, covering a wide field in microscopy, has been of singular benefit to diverse investigators in the physical and biological sciences. |
