Citation | In charge of Royal Society Mond Laboratory since 1947. Ph.D. Fellow and Lecturer, Gonville and Caius College. Distinguished for his researches into superconductivity (the intermediate state, penetration depth of magnetic fields, and the properties of individual metals), into diamagnetism of metals and related effects including the de Haas-van Alphen effect, and into ferromagnetism Directs a flourishing school of low temperature research. Author of numerous papers (list attached) in Proc.Roy.Soc. and elsewhere, also of "Superconductivity", Cambridge University Press, and "Magnetism", Sigma Books. In charge of important research project for Ministry of Supply, 1940-45; also of investigation into electrical sheet steel for the Electrical Research Association, 1946-50. |
