Citation | Distinguished for his contributions to clinical investigation and especially for researches into the aetiology of diabetes mellitus and of necrosis of the liver. His researches into insulin insensitivity in diabetes and the influence of endocrine glands and of diet on insulin sensitivity involved an elegant combination of clinical investigation and animal experimentation which are internationally quoted. His publications, numbering over 60, include a monograph on diseases of the liver which has been translated into Spanish and Italian. Since 1949 he has been conspicuously successful in promoting the development of medical research under modern conditions. |
