Title | Huxley, Sir Andrew Fielding: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | HUXLEY, Andrew Fielding. (Cambridge). Assistant Director of Research. Distinguished for his work on nervous conduction. He has developed new methods for studying electrical changes with internal electrodes and has made outstanding contributions to our knowledge of physical events underlying conduction of impulses - particularly in connexion with the role of electrolytes. His experiments with myelinated nerve fibres provided convincing evidence for the salutatory theory of conduction and put it on a quantitative basis. He has also developed a new type of interference microscope which gives much interesting information about the fine structure of skeletal muscle. |
