Has developed a flourishing research school at the Cape mainly concentrating on X-ray analysis, but also studying meteorology and cosmic radiation. Author of numerous papers and several books including 'The Optical Principles of the Diffraction of X-rays' (1948, reprinted 1950) which has received word-wide recognition.
