Citation | M.A. (Cambridge) Distinguished for his contribution to X-ray optics. One of first to apply accurate quantitative methods in X-ray analysis. Has developed a flourishing research school at the Cape mainly concentrating on X-ray analysis, but also studying meteorology and cosmic radiation. Author of numerous papers and several books including 'The Optical Principles of the Diffraction of X-rays' (1948, reprinted 1950) which has received word-wide recognition.
